Tell us what your home needs.
We handle the rest.

See everything we take care of
  • The right size, not the biggest. Your home's load is calculated before we quote, so you know whether you need a 200 A service, a sub-panel, or no panel work at all.
  • One written price for the agreed scope. Everything included is listed in your quote. If we find a hidden problem, we show you and price it before doing anything.
  • No calls to the utility. The disconnect and reconnect with Toronto Hydro or Alectra are booked and coordinated for you.
  • Room for what's next. EV charger, heat pump, hot tub? The new panel typically has 40 spaces, with room left for the circuits you'll add later.
  • Permit to certificate, handled. ESA filing, inspection and your Certificate of Acceptance, all under our licence: the record your insurer and a future buyer will look for.
  • Your home stays clean. Floors protected, old equipment hauled away, and the area vacuumed before we leave.
  • A panel anyone can read. Every circuit clearly labelled, so the next person who opens it knows what's what.
  • One electrician from quote to inspection. The person who assesses your panel is the person you talk to. No call centre, no handoffs.
  • Done the way you like it. If you'd like something a little different — the panel's labelling, how the new circuits are laid out — we adjust it, within the agreed scope, until you're happy with how it looks.
  • 2-year workmanship warranty, in writing.

5 Reasons Toronto Homeowners
Upgrade Their Panel

Most homeowners find out they need an upgrade when something stops them — an insurance flag, a failed permit, a charger that won't install. If any of these apply, don't wait for the moment that forces your hand.

Installing an EV Charger

Your calculated load decides whether you need an upgrade — we work it out before you spend a dollar.

Still Have a Fuse Box

A fire hazard many Ontario insurers charge more for or refuse to cover.

Panel Has No Available Capacity

A full panel may not take new circuits for EV chargers, heat pumps, or renovations.

Renovation or Addition Planned

New kitchen, addition, or workshop? You'll need more circuits — and the capacity to run them.

Insurance Flagged Your Panel

Most Ontario insurers flag Federal Pioneer and Zinsco/Sylvania panels — an upgrade keeps your coverage.

4 Steps.
We Handle the Hard Part.

From quote to completed ESA inspection — we manage permits, utility coordination, and every detail in between.

1
Free Assessment

Send photos of your panel for a free assessment, or book a site visit ($175 + HST, credited toward the work). We assess your current setup and recommend the right upgrade path.

2
Written Quote

Fixed price, full scope. You know exactly what you're getting before we start, and nothing extra is done without your approval.

3
Permit & Utility

We open the ESA permit and submit everything it needs. We coordinate your utility (Toronto Hydro / Alectra) for the disconnect and reconnect. You don't call anyone.

4
Install & Inspect

Panel installed. ESA inspects the work and authorizes the reconnection.

The Permit Isn't Optional. It's Your Insurance.

A panel upgrade without an ESA permit is illegal in Ontario — and puts your home insurance at serious risk. If there's ever a fire or electrical incident, your insurer will check whether the work was permitted. If it wasn't, they can deny the claim entirely. Every Actus upgrade is permitted, inspected, and on record. Your home is protected the day we leave.

Pricing & Service Levels

Every price includes the panel, labour, the ESA permit and inspection, whole-home surge protection and a 2-year workmanship warranty. Utility charges, where they apply, are shown separately on your quote. Send photos for a free assessment and a fixed written price. Prefer a site visit? It's $175 + HST, credited toward the work if you go ahead. Tap any row to see what's included. Not sure what size you need? Our guide to choosing the right panel upgrade walks through how the decision is made.

$3,500–$5,000+

$3,500 is a straightforward replacement in the same spot. A new location, or problems found on site, cost more — and you approve them first.

Every quote is free and comes with no obligation. All prices include labour, panel hardware, ESA permit, and inspection fee. Utility charges, where they apply, are shown separately on your quote. Toronto Hydro's disconnect and reconnect charge on overhead services has been about $600 plus HST in our experience. Any additional scope is identified from your photos or during the work, and approved by you first. We never add extras without your approval first.

No. In Ontario, electrical work you hire out must be done by a Licensed Electrical Contractor, and the contractor holding the permit is responsible for all the work on site. A contractor isn't allowed to take out permits for unlicensed people or companies, and its Master Electrician can be designated to only one company at a time. If the permit names a company that didn't do your job, so does your Certificate of Acceptance, the document your insurer and a future buyer rely on. We file every job under our own licence, #7013957.
For the scope in your quote, yes. Sometimes a problem only shows up during the work — for example, damaged contacts in the meter base when the utility pulls the meter. We show you, price it, and do nothing extra without your approval.
We need to schedule the utility company (Toronto Hydro or Alectra) to disconnect and reconnect power, and confirm the service entrance wiring can carry the upgraded load. Utility coordination can vary from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the utility, the area and how busy they are. We book the shutdown date with you in advance. We handle all scheduling — you don't need to follow up with anyone.
We plan access carefully before starting. We minimize any drywall work and always clean up completely. Your home looks the same when we leave.
A cheaper quote is almost always missing something. A complete panel upgrade includes: new panel hardware, ESA permit, utility coordination, licensed labour, inspection, grounding to current code, and a 2-year warranty. Every item on that list has a real cost. When a quote comes in significantly lower, something is missing from that list. We won't remove any of these items — each one exists to protect you, your home, and your family. What you get with Actus Electric is the complete job — done legally, inspected, and guaranteed.
Not always — and we'll tell you honestly once we've assessed your panel. But "still works" doesn't mean safe or adequate. Some older panels, including certain Federal Pioneer and Zinsco/Sylvania models, have breakers known to fail to trip on overload. The panel keeps working right up until it doesn't protect you. Fuse panels and undersized breaker panels create real risks: overheating, fire hazard, insurance issues, and inability to support EV chargers or modern appliances. If your panel is flagged by your insurer, you have no choice. If you're planning an EV charger, you may not need the upgrade at all. Ontario's code allows an energy management system to cap the charger's load, which often removes the need for a service upgrade. We calculate your load before recommending one. If the upgrade is being driven by an EV charger, we've written up what a panel upgrade for an EV charger actually involves. We won't recommend work you don't need — but we'll explain clearly what the risks are if you don't upgrade.
Usually, yes. Many older Toronto homes have overhead service — wires from the pole to a mast on the house. Overhead is the easier kind to upgrade: Toronto Hydro replaces the wire from the pole, and we replace the mast, the meter base and the wiring to your panel, then seal the roof around the new mast. That mast and roof work is part of why overhead upgrades are quoted higher. If your service is underground, the supply cable sets the limit — we check it before quoting. If a storm damages the wires on Toronto Hydro's side, they repair it at no charge.
Often not. Older Toronto homes can still have fuse boxes, sometimes knob-and-tube wiring, and worn connections at the meter or where the utility wire meets the house. Replacing only the panel leaves those weak points in place, so we check everything from the meter to the panel and replace the wiring where it needs it — and tell you before we do.
No. In Ontario, a panel upgrade without an ESA permit is illegal. More importantly — it puts your insurance coverage at risk. If there's ever a fire or electrical incident, your insurer will investigate whether the work was permitted. If it wasn't, they can deny the claim outright. Any electrician who offers to skip the permit is putting you at serious legal and financial risk to save themselves paperwork. We never skip permits. Ever. We handle everything — ESA permit, scheduling, utility notification. You don't call anyone. It's our responsibility start to finish.
We serve Toronto and the surrounding GTA — Mississauga, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Brampton, Markham, Oakville, Burlington, and Milton. We coordinate the utility disconnect and reconnect wherever you are — Toronto Hydro, Alectra, or your municipal utility. We open the ESA permit and submit everything it needs. The same process applies across Toronto & GTA.

"Actus did the panel upgrade and it was honestly a relief from start to finish. Scheduling actually stuck, no vague windows or chasing updates just showed up when promised and got right to work. Everything felt steady and well managed, with clear steps on what was happening next even in the middle of a busy day. The crew moved efficiently but never rushed, kept things orderly around the house too Definitely keeping actus as the go-to for anything electrical going forward"
