Mississauga Panel Upgrades.
Verified Before We Start.

Most Mississauga homes can get 200 A — but the underground wire feeding your house decides that, not the panel. We confirm it with Alectra before you pay for anything.

What Mississauga Homeowners
Should Know First

Four things that decide how a Mississauga panel upgrade goes.

Underground Supply Sets the Ceiling

The wire from Alectra's transformer to your house caps your service. No panel you install can raise it.

We Check Before Install Day

We check the drawings, then the conductors at the meter if needed. Drawings aren't always precise. A field check is a fact.

125 A Is the Optimal Option

When the supply can't carry 200 A, you can still upgrade to 125 A for exactly 25% more capacity and more room for breakers.

Load Management Can Replace an Upgrade

Ontario's code lets an energy management system cap demand so an EV charger runs on the capacity you already have.

What We Usually Find
By Home Type

A starting expectation from the field — not a verdict. We verify every job.

Pre-1970s, Under ~1,500 sq ft

Supply is often sized below 200 A. 125 A is a common result.

Newer Areas, Larger Homes on 100 A

Supply is usually already capable of 200 A.

Townhouses

Smaller supply conductors, usually 100 A or 125 A. Upgrading them is underground work with its own quote from Alectra.

Upgrading the supply conductors from the transformer to your house is not free. If it's your choice, Alectra's quote typically starts at $12,000 to $20,000 and can reach $50,000, because it's complex underground work. If Alectra upgrades them on its own decision, it may cost you nothing — but that's Alectra's call, and we can't promise it.

Manage the Load
Instead of Upgrading

When the supply can't carry more, the code lets you control the load instead.

Same-Brand Systems — Slow the Charger Down

When the house electrical system is close to its limit, the EV charger slows down for that peak — often only briefly — and keeps charging. Works only with the same brand: Tesla, ChargePoint and some others.

Universal Systems — Turn the Charger Off

When the house electrical system is close to its limit, it turns off power to the charger completely, and turns it back on when demand drops. Works with any charger, or any other heavy load that can be safely switched off.

Pick your charger first. That choice decides which management option is available to you.

Under Rule 8-200 1) a) vi), the service calculation for a single dwelling adds EV charger loads at 100% — except as permitted by Rule 8-106 11). Ontario's amended Rule 8-106 10) sets the demand load for equipment controlled by an energy management system at the maximum that system allows, and Rule 8-106 11) removes it from the calculation where the system monitors the service, feeders and branch circuits and controls loads per Rule 8-500. Rule 8-500 2) requires the system to keep the branch circuit, feeder and service within what Rule 8-104 5) or 6) permits — a code-bounded limit, not a workaround. ESA Bulletin 86-1, "Electric vehicle charging systems," explains how this applies to chargers.

Four Steps,
Start to Finish

We handle the utility, the scheduling and the inspection.

1
Free Site Assessment

We look at your panel, your supply and what you plan to run.

2
Utility Request and Scheduling

We submit the request to Alectra and schedule it. Processing and scheduling can vary from 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the utility, the area and how busy they are.

3
Preparation and Upgrade Day

Usually one day of preparation, then one day with the power off for the upgrade itself.

4
ESA Permit and Inspection

We open the ESA permit and submit everything it needs. ESA inspects the work and authorizes the reconnection.

Alectra Disconnects Are Free Today.
That Changes in 2027.

Alectra plans to introduce charges for disconnecting and reconnecting your service starting in 2027. Today there's no charge. Upgrades completed before then avoid the new charges.

If the supply check shows your service caps at 125 A, we quote that option instead. Utility charges, where they apply, are shown separately on your quote.

Every quote is free and comes with no obligation. All prices include labour, panel hardware, ESA permit, and inspection fee. Any additional scope is identified during the site assessment and approved by you before work begins. We never add extras without your approval first.

Yes, if you need it — but the cost can be very different. If the underground supply already carries 200 A, it's straightforward. If it doesn't, Alectra quotes the supply upgrade separately, typically $12,000 to $50,000 on top.
Not always. We work through it in order: first a load calculation on your home; if there isn't enough room, load management; and only if load management can't do the job, a service upgrade.
Yes. Once the utility disconnects your power, it won't reconnect without ESA's inspection and authorization. If someone offers to upgrade your panel without coordinating with the utility first, in most cases that means working on it live — a serious safety risk to whoever does the work. That work also won't be inspected, which puts your home insurance at serious risk.
From submission to the crew on site, 2 weeks to 2 months, depending on the area and how busy they are. The power-off work itself normally takes one day.
It's exactly 25% more capacity than 100 A, plus a modern panel and more breaker spaces. In most cases, a load calculation shows it can carry an EV charger — we check your existing loads before any work. If you have a lot of other loads, load management is a good solution.
Alectra plans to introduce disconnect and reconnect charges in 2027. The amounts aren't published yet. Today there's no charge.
